Police hunt a suspected North Yorkshire gunman

shooting in Scarborough

Update 4.05pm Monday 23 April 2012:

Police in Scarborough are continuing to search for a man in connection with a shooting incident in Eastfield.

Officers are making extensive enquiries to trace the man and are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The 36 year old man who was injured in the incident remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Inspector Leo Suret, of Eastfield Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

"I can assure residents that officers are doing all they can to trace the man involved in this incident.

"We don't believe that he poses a threat to the general public but obviously it is important that we locate him as soon as possible.

"If you have any information that could help the police with the investigation please get in touch."

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 - select option 2 - and ask for Scarborough CID.

Background to the investigation

North Yorkshire Police are hunting a man after a 36 year man was shot in the lower leg at a house in Scarborough.

The force tell us there was a struggle at the house on High Garth in Eastfield at 5.30pm on Saturday night. (21-4-12)

One man was holding a gun during the fight which then went off and shot the victim in the leg.

The man who was shot was taken to Scarborough Hospital and is in a stable condition.

Officers were outside the house as forensic officers carry out their investigations.

“However, I would like to reassure residents that we don’t believe there to be a threat to the wider public and we are doing everything we can to locate the other man involved in the this incident.

“I would urge anyone who has any information about this incident to contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”

North Yorkshire Police Statement:

North Yorkshire Police were called at around 5.30pm on Saturday 21 April 2012, after reports of a disturbance at an address in High Garth, in the Eastfield area of Scarborough.

During the incident a 36-year-old man received a gunshot wound to the lower leg and is currently receiving hospital treatment. His condition is described as stable.

It is believed that his injuries were sustained during a struggle with another man who has yet to be traced by police.

Officers are currently making extensive enquiries to trace the other man involved in the incident.
