Drugs warning across North Yorkshire

It could take up to 2 weeks to identify what the substance was that killed a 16 year old girl in North Yorkshire.  

Poppy Rodgers from York died in hospital after taking a yellow white paste on Friday morning.

The 2 people arrested in connection with her death have now been bailed.

Police have issued an urgent drugs warning though.

It's after a 21 year old local man was been treated in hospital because of it too, he's now made a good recovery and has been discharged.

Police are still investigating what happened.

Update 2.40pm Sunday 22 April 2012:

The 21-year-old man who was taken hospital has made a good recovery and has now been discharged from York District Hospital.

The two people who were arrested in connection with the incident, a 26-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man have been released on police bail as enquiries into the incident continue.

Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 –and ask for York CID.

Update on suspected drugs death in York - safety warning issued

North Yorkshire Police are continuing to investigate the suspected drugs-related death of a 16-year-old girl in York.

Paramedics were called to a house in the Tang Hall area at about 11.25pm on Thursday (19 April 2012). The girl was taken to York District Hospital where she was pronounced dead in the early hours of Friday (20 April 2012) following attempts to resuscitate her.

A 21-year-old local man, believed to be connected to the incident, is in a serious but stable condition. He was taken to York District Hospital by a friend.

A 23-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from York, have been arrested and bailed in connection with the investigation.

Police enquiries have been ongoing in and around the address at Tang Hall as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Witnesses or anyone with information that could assist the investigation are urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and select option 1.

Safety warning…

In relation to this investigation, North Yorkshire Police and the North Yorkshire & York Primary Care Trust are urging anyone with drug-related health concerns to seek medical assistance without delay.

Either contact your GP or go to straight to hospital if required.

The yellow/white paste involved in this particular case is undergoing tests to determine exactly what it contains, although amphetamine is believed to be involved.

Until this is confirmed, people are strongly urged not to risk taking substances matching this description or of a similar nature.

One girl has already died and a young man was in a serious but stable condition in hospital, so the potential dangers are very real.
