The Gurkha Curry night
12:00am 13th April 2012
The Rt Hon Lord Mayor of York, Cllr David Horton will once again be welcoming curry fans to York Guildhall this Friday evening (13th April 2012) for a spicy feast.
The Chefs of 2 Signal Regiment, The Queen's Gurkhas will be serving up authentic Nepalese cuisine, at an event which will raise funds for the Lord Mayor's Charities (York Mind, and York Against Cancer).
The Gurkha Curry night has become a regular event in the Civic calendar, and is always well attended by local fans of spicy food!
This time around the fundraising team have managed to secure two fantastic sporting items which will be auctioned on the night.
1) An autographed "home" shirt from Liverpool FC, which features the signatures of around 15 of the first-team squad, and comes with a Certificate of Authentification from the club. With the reds taking part in a huge game the following day, this item is expected to generate great interest. Liverpool will be playing their Merseyside rivals Everton at 12.30pm on Saturday (14th April) in a historic FA Cup semi-final at Wembley stadium.
2) This item will certainly appeal to Formula One fans; a Ferrari cap, which has been signed by the "Flying Finn"; 2007 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen. Following a 2-year hiatus, Räikkönen has rejoined the F1 grid as a driver for Team Lotus for 2012. However this cap is reminiscent of former glories, as it dates back to his spell with the legendary Ferrari team, for whom he raced for 3 years up until 2009. In 2007, the former McClaren and Sauber man beat both Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso by a single point to take Ferrari's first Drivers' Championship since Michael Schumacher's dominance of the sport.
The event takes place at York Guildhall starting at 7.30pm.
