More support for the Air Ambulance
12:00am 6th April 2012
Local MEP Godfrey Bloom is urging local residents to sign a petition to encourage the Government to exempt Air Ambulance services from duty on the fuel they use.
Mr Bloom, UKIP Euro-MP said:
"I think this is a cause well worth supporting and I would urge everyone who can to go on-line and sign up to this petition.
"The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is exempt from duty on the fuel they use for their vital life saving work and I see absolutely no reason why the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service should not be afforded the same right.
"Charity-funded Air ambulances provide an invaluable service across the region and they need all support we can give them".
It costs in £7,200 a day to keep its two aircraft maintained and in the air and provides a rapid response to 5 million people across the county.
Mr Bloom added:
"This petition needs 100,000 signatures to trigger consideration for a Parliamentary debate and we can all do our bit to ensure that figure is not only met but well exceeded".
