Shine like a star day
12:00am 30th March 2012
The York Teaching Hospital Charity (YTHC) has organised 'Shine like a STAR day' on Friday 30th March and is asking all schools to take part in support of The STAR Appeal.
The charity is asking all schools to take part in a dress down day for the appeal and star stickers can be provided for all the children to wear on the day.
On the same date, the charity would also like schools to enter their 'Create a STAR' competition where all school pupils are invited to create a star.
This could be a drawing, painting or sculpture. Although the winning pupil will be notified by the end of April, the winning star will be revealed at the official opening of the newly refurbished unit and displayed thereafter on the unit. A prize will be awarded for the winning star.
Entries for this competition can be sent in to the charity in the run up to, or on the 30th March itself, or the charity would be happy to pick these up from you.
Lucy Watson, Fundraising Manager for the YTHC said:
"Our Shine like a STAR day is taking place on Friday 30th March and we are asking all local schools to join us to raise vital funds for this appeal".
"Our Create a STAR competition is really fun activity for the children to get involved in and we thank all the schools who decide to take part."
The STAR appeal is aiming to raise £300,000 to refurbish York Hospital's Stroke Rehabilitation unit which is desperately in need of modernisation to meet the specific needs of patients recovering from a stroke.
Stroke is the third largest cause of death and the single largest cause of adult disability in the UK.
More than 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke each year and it can affect people of all ages
