Police in York are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in the city.
It occurred yesterday (Tuesday 20th March 2012) at about 8.40pm, on Wigginton Road and involved a blue Renault Laguna and a 38 year old local woman, who was walking along the road between the Bumper Castle public house and the level crossing. It is believed that they were both heading into the city.
The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to York District Hospital, where she died later the same evening.
We are not yet in a position to release her identity.
The 56 year old Midlothian man driving the car was arrested in connection with the collision. He has now been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
Traffic Sergeant Andy Quigley, of North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group, said:
”I would like to speak to anyone who was on Wigginton Road around the time and saw either the woman, who was wearing dark clothing, or the Renault which was travelling in a line of other traffic. I ask them to contact the police as a matter of urgency.”
Anyone who can help the police with this investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101. Press option 2 and ask for Andy Quigley.
