York police hunt thieves following high value theft
3:21pm 20th March 2012
Police are appealing for information following the theft of £50,000 worth of copper wire in York.
It occurred between 3pm on Saturday 17th March and 2.30am on Monday 19th March 2012, at a construction site on Station Rise.
The burglars broke into the Hilton Express building site, before stealing a large amount of copper cabling, which had recently been installed, causing a large amount of damage.
The thieves also attempted to steal building equipment, copper piping and other metal from the site.
PC Andrew Pearson, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:
"Because of the amount of cabling the thieves stole, I am absolutely positive that someone will have seen suspicious activity in the area.
"I am urging anyone who was in the area during the time of the burglary, and may have seen any suspicious activity, to come forward and contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible."
PC Pearson added:
"I am urging any scrap metal dealers who may be offered the cabling to contact the police straight away."
Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact York police on 101. Press option 2 and ask for Andrew Pearson.
Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12120043653.
