Stabbing in North Yorkshire

A woman has been stabbed in North Yorkshire.

Police recieved reports earlier today that a 60 year old had been stabbed in Brayton near Selby.

The woman was taken to York District Hospital where her condition is described as serious.

A 48 year old local man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding.

He remains in Police Custody.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said:

“North Yorkshire Police were called by the ambulance service to an address on Brackenhill Close, Brayton, just before 6.50am on Friday 9 March 2012, following the reports that a 60-year-old woman had received a stab wound.

“As the result of the incident a 48-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding. He is currently in police custody.

“The woman was taken to York District Hospital where her condition is currently described as  serious.

“Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, press option 1. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
