Woman dies in A169 crash

A woman has died after a crash on the A169 between Whitby and Pickering

The car left the road and overturned coming to rest on its side in a field yesterday.

The 24 year old passanger died in hospital after being taken with life threatning injuries.

The 25 year old male driver suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of Dangerous driving.

Both the passanger and driver are from Doncaster.

Witnesses or anyone with information that could assist the investigation into the collision, have been urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for Ian Barratt.

North Yorkshire Police Statement:

Police are appealing for information following a fatal collision on the A169 Whitby to Pickering Road at Brocka Beck on Fylingdales Moor.

The collision occurred just after 3pm on Sunday 29 January 2012 and involved a single vehicle, a silver Renault Clio driven by a 25-year-old man from the Doncaster area.

The car was travelling from Whitby towards Pickering when it left the road and overturned before coming to rest on its side in a field.

A 24-year-old woman passenger in the vehicle, also from the Doncaster area, was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough where she sadly died.  

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the silver Clio prior to crash to contact them.

Anyone with any information is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for TC Ian Barrett.

The 25-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The road was closed and reopened at approximately 9pm.

We are not yet in a position to release the identity of the deceased.
