Getting in the party spirit
4:42pm 18th January 2012
City of York Council is encouraging residents to celebrate an exciting year for the city and the country by holding a street party this summer.
The council has produced information on how to hold a street party, which will be available online at www.york.gov.uk or www.yorkfestivals.com with information and advice for anyone thinking of getting their local community together to celebrate York 800 or the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Anyone wanting a hard copy of the document should email firstname.lastname@example.org
Councillor Sonja Crisp, the council's Cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, said:
"2012 is a momentous year for York and the whole country as we celebrate 800 years since the city was granted a Royal Charter by King John and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
"There are lots of activities happening throughout the year and I hope that residents will enter into the spirit of what we hope will be a fun-packed summer by holding their own street party."
To make it even easier for residents to get involved, the council is waiving the charge normally associated with processing road closure requests and the associated legal notices.
