Praise for York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust

York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust is celebrating after achieving 4 Stars in the highly prized and prestigious Recognised for Excellence (R4E) programme.
R4E is part of the EFQM Levels of Excellence programme and is designed for organisations that are well on their way to organisational excellence. It recognises successful efforts to implement excellence and good practice, and offers the benefits of a structured approach to identifying organisational strengths and areas for improvement as well as an external point of view.
In December last year the Trust invited the British Quality Foundation (BQF) to undertake an external assessment against this model and was awarded 4 Star recognition - an inspiring result having been achieved at the first time of application.
Pete Brown, Chief Executive, York and North Yorkshire Probation Trust said:
"This prestigious award recognises the professionalism of our probation staff and the excellence of their work. This very public recognition of not just what they do but, perhaps more importantly, how well they do it, is a source of pride for our staff.
"At a time of big changes for Probation, it's great to have the endorsement of an organisation such as the British Quality Foundation. The award underlines that we are doing a good job and achieving excellence."
The findings of the assessment show that the Trust has achieved high performance results through dedicated efforts and has a committed workforce who are proud of, and enjoy, working for the Trust. It also demonstrates that the Trust recognises the importance of partnership and collaborative working for the delivery of quality services.
The Trust's Recognised for Excellence 4 Star recognition comes less than a year after the Trust was awarded Bronze Status in Investors in People. Fewer than four per cent of organisations achieve Bronze, putting the Trust at the leading edge of best people management practice.
York and North Yorkshire's award comes in the same year that the Probation Service nationally was awarded the 2011 British Quality Foundation's (BQF) 'Gold Medal for Excellence'. It is the first time a public sector organisation has won the award; previous winners of which include Ricoh UK Products, Siemens UK and TNT Express.
