Bootham assault

5:12pm 4th January 2012

Police in York are appealing for information following an assault in the city.

It occurred at around 3.30pm on Sunday 1st January 2012, when a 51 year old man from Huddersfield was walking along Bootham towards Clifton Green.

He was approached by two men who knocked him to the ground before kicking and stamping on him.

The victim managed to get away before he suffered any serious injuries. He was treated by paramedics and did not require treatment in hospital.

The only description of the offenders is that one had blond hair and the second man had dark hair.

PC Andrew Pearson, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

"Thankfully the victim suffered only minor injuries.

"It is possible that the assault may be football related, as the victim was wearing a top similar in style to the Mansfield Town strip, who were playing York City at Bootham Crescent at the time of the incident.

"If you have any information about this assault I urge you to contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible."

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact PC Andrew Pearson of York police on 101. Press option 2 and ask for Andrew Pearson by name.

Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12120000494.
