Evacuation near Skipton, situation resolved

Police had toy evacuate residents from an area around an address on East View in Hellifiled, near Skipton this morning.
It followed reports of a distressed man threatening to harm himself received from a local hospital at just before midnight on Wednesday 21 December 2011.
The area was cordoned off and members of the public were advised to stay from the area.
North Yorkshire Police is working with partner agencies to provide support for those inconvenienced by this incident.
The incident at East View in Hellifield was successfully resolved at around 8am when the man came out of the property voluntarily.
He was arrested in connection with the incident at the scene and has been taken to Airedale General Hospital for a precautionary check.
Chief Superintendent Ali Higgins said:
“I am very pleased that we have been able to bring this situation to a safe conclusion.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local residents, who needed to be evacuated, for their support and cooperation during the course of this morning’s events.
“I also thank North Yorkshire County Council for assisting us to ensure that those people who had to leave their homes in the early hours had the support they needed.”
The road blocks have now been lifted and the residents have been allowed to return home.
