The RMT Union claims York based Network Rail is planning to axe as many as 15 hundred maintenance jobs.
The union adds the company will make around half of the cuts on the West Coast Main Line.
Network Rail, which employs around 16 thousand staff, has previously said it wants to reduce permanent employee numbers and agency contractor staff to slash costs.
