Biker killed in York crash

A biker has died after a serious road traffic collision in York this morning (Tuesday 29th November 2011).
The collision involving a single motorcycle occurred on Layerthorpe outside National Tyres and Autocare at around 11.30am.
The motorcyclist, a local man believed to be in his 30s, suffered serious head injuries in the incident and was taken to York District Hospital for treatment.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed he had died at 4.50pm this afternoon.
Layerthorpe was closed in both directions earlier between James Street and Foss Islands Road as the police investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision. It reopened at 4pm
