Detectives in York are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was robbed in Huntington.

The 16-year-old victim was one of a group of six friends standing on Whenby Grove at the junction with Skewsby Grove, when they were approached by two men on bicycles at around 9.30pm on Wednesday 2 November 2011.

The suspects claimed to be carrying a knife and searched the group for cash which resulted in the victim handing over £105. The rest over the group had no property taken from them and at no point was a weapon seen.

Officers, who have been making enquiries in the area, are appealing to any witnesses to come forward and help them identify the suspects.

The first offender, who was riding an old red bike, is described as white, aged 17 or 18, between 5ft 9in and 6ft tall, with a slim build and a local accent. He was wearing a black hooded tracksuit top with matching bottoms, the hood was up and the lower part of his face was covered with a scarf.

The second suspect, who was riding an old grey bike, is described as white, aged 17 or 18, with a local accent. He was wearing a light grey hooded tracksuit top and black tracksuit bottoms. He also had his hood up and wore a scarf covering the lower part of his face.

Detective Constable Michael Johnston, of York CID, said:

“This was clearly a distressing incident for the teenagers involved and one boy had a lot of money taken from him.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident itself or can help identify the offenders, to contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who may have been approached in similar circumstances, as they could have information that can help us locate the offenders.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquires is urged to contact DC Michael Johnston, of York CID, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 1211086351.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
