Selby police are warning the public to be vigilant after card-reading devices were found on cash machines in the town.
They were found on two ATMs outside the Halifax Bank on Gowthorpe on Monday 31 October 2011.
The suspect card reading devices appear to have been designed to capture the details on the cards’ magnetic strips.
It is not known exactly when the devices were fitted, but it is thought that they were installed during the last two weeks of October 2011.
PC Scott Gatman, of the Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:
“Although noone has reported having money removed from their accounts, I urge everyone who has used one of the machines in the last fortnight to check their bank statements as a matter of urgency.
If they notice any unauthorised withdrawals or purchases they should inform their bank immediately as well as reporting the theft to the police."
PC Gatman added:
“If anyone sees something unusual or suspicious about an ATM they are using they should report it to the bank and police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”
