A contractor is offering a £2,000 reward for the arrest and charge of the thieves who stole £33,000 worth of equipment from a disused mine near Selby.
Wistow Mine at Wistow Common is currently undergoing demolition work.
Between 1pm on Saturday 17th September and 6.30am on Monday 19th September, thieves have entered the mine and removed a large quantity of machinery and cable with a total value of over £33,000.
The owners of the equipment, HCL Equipment Contracts Ltd, have offered a £2,000 reward for information which leads to the arrest and charge of the suspects.
The stolen equipment includes:
- Red Euro Stripper wire stripper
- 16KVA generator,
- Honda 3inch water pump,
- Two petrol Stihl saws,
- Aluminium, lead and copper cable
- Two stainless steel tanks
- DB-A2 Tripod
- Various tools and ladders
Investigating officer, PC Ben Pepper of Selby Police said:
“The thieves would have needed a large vehicle to transport the goods and I am appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area of the mine or the Wistow Common area to contact the police.
"I'm also appealing to anyone who may be offered the equipment for sale, in particular, the red Euro Stripper wire stripper which may be easy to identify as it was covered in tar.
“Plant and metal theft is big business at the moment and we advise people to be vigilant and ensure they take as many crime prevention measures as possible.
“Members of the public can also help by reporting any suspicious behaviour or vehicles to the police.“
