Man jumps or falls from Stonebow House

North Yorkshire Police have now confirmed the distressed man, who was threatening to commit suicide on The Stonebow in York, fell from the scaffolding just before 2pm today.

He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assistant Chief Constable Tim Madgwick has said: "We are very saddened by the outcome of this incident. Police Negotiators were in constant dialogue with the man since noon yesterday".

North Yorkshire Police are still in the process of notifying family members of his death and are not in a position to release his identity.

The force has also referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
