A criminal has escaped from custody in Northallerton.

25 year old Mark Andrew Stone went missing from the town's cemetery near All Saint's church this morning.

At the time he was working on a community pay back scheme.

He's 6 foot tall and has a shaved head.

North Yorkshire Police say, he was last seen he was wearing a grey tee shirt, black cardigan and black tracksuit bottoms.

It is not known what he's wearing on his feet though as he left his prison issue boots at the scene.

It is not known where he may go although it is possible he may be heading towards Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

Inspector Dave Murray, of Northallerton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

"Although we do not believe that Stone poses a danger to the public, I would advise that people do not approach him and contact the police as a matter of urgency.

"I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a man matching his description, especially someone not wearing shoes, to contact the police or Crimestoppers immediately."

If you can assist with this investigation please contact Inspector Dave Murray on 0845 60 60 24 7. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
