GCSE’s saw another set of great results for Bootham School, the independent Quaker School in York. An impressive 21 students gained 10 or more straight A/A* grades with Sam Altmann sweeping the boarding with 11 A*s grades.
Looking at the School’s results overall, Bootham reported that 96% of all students had one or more science passes (grade A* to C), and 71% of students having passes in the three separate sciences of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Headmaster, Jonathan Taylor, said:
“At Bootham, the aim is to give students a broad based academic education which must include a balance of science, arts and foreign languages, and a figure of 96% of all students passing at least one of the science subjects is what we expect.
"Bootham has always enjoyed a strong reputation in the sciences. We even claim the country’s oldest, continuously running school science society, founded here back in 1834.”
Students who gained 10 or more A/A* passes include: Kitty Acton, Sam Altmann, Tom Andrew, James Ashbridge, Cathy Besch, Ellie Cornforth, Ellie Coupe, Max Fend, Marcus Hirst, Alex Hornby, Howard Cheung, Maddie Hyde, Joe Lin, Solomon Lyon, Oliver Manners, James Paul, Chris Piercy, Katie Robertson, Hannah Robertson, Lucy Southen and Georgia Tindale.
