York police hunt nightclub attacker

CCTV 1

3:35pm 8th July 2011

Police in York are asking for the public’s help to identify a man following an assault in a city nightclub.

It occurred in the Gallery, on Clifford Street, at around 12.30am on Monday 30th May 2011 when the offender punched a 23 year old Pocklington man, who was talking with two women he knew.

The offender punched the man in the face, who then fell to the floor hitting railings as he fell. The victim was taken to York District Hospital where he was treated for a serious eye injury. He remained in hospital for two days but will require further treatment to restore full sight in his right eye.

The offender is described as white, aged around 20 years old, approximately 6ft tall with a stocky build and a shaved head. At the time of the assault he was wearing a white polo short with grey sleeves and a dark band running around the body.

PC Steve Gillespie, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

“This was a nasty and unprovoked assault which knocked the victim to the ground. He was left with such severe injuries that he was admitted to hospital and will require ongoing treatment to fully restore his sight.

“I urge anyone who recognises the offender or has any information that could help to identify him to contact the police straight away.”

If you can assist with this enquiry please contact PC Steve Gillespie at York Police Station, on 0845 60 60 24 7 quoting reference number. Or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
