Terrorised North Yorkshire pensioners

10:54am 28th June 2011
(Updated 12:55pm 28th June 2011)

An elderly couple in Scarborough who have been plagued by anti-social behaviour are offering a £100 cash reward to help North Yorkshire Police find those responsible.

The couple, who are in their 70s and do not wish to be identified or interviewed, have been forced to put up with eggs being thrown at the windows of their house on Throxenby Lane, Newby on several occasions over the past few months and have also had their front hedge ripped up.

A fence has also been damaged and the incidents are causing the couple a lot of stress and concern.

They are willing to offer the cash to anyone who can provide the police with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the incidents.

Officers are appealing for anyone who regularly uses Throxenby Lane, particularly in the evenings, to contact the police or the independent charity Crimestoppers if they have seen anything suspicious.

PC Leanne Wilson, of Scarborough police, said:

“Nobody should have to put up with anti-social behaviour and be intimidated in their own home.

“This is an elderly couple who do not know why they are being targeted and are very concerned by what has been happening to them.

“I am appealing to the residents of Scarborough to come forward with any information which can help us identify who is responsible for this appalling behaviour.

“Hopefully the cash reward will act as an incentive to anyone who knows who is behind this to come forward. However, I would hope that the suffering of the victims will also prompt people to share any information they have with us.”

Anyone who can help the police with their investigation is urged to contact PC Leanne Wilson, of Scarborough police, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110104362.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
