Historic event at Cliffords Tower

Over 200 children to meet the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Horton, at Cliffords Tower in York.
The first time that a Lord Mayor has visited Cliffords Tower in living memory.
School children from Carr Junior, Fishergate Primary and St Georges Schools some dressed as Knights Templars will meet the Lord Mayor.
The event starts at the Mayor's residence the historic Mansion House at 10am where 32 children from Carr School will invite the Mayor 'to come and inspect Cliffords Tower',the civic party accompanied by the school children will walk to Cliffords Tower.
The Mayor will meet 200 school children from Fishergate and St Georges schools who will be lined up at the bottom of Cliffords Tower ramparts before going into the tower.
A scroll of patronage will be presented to the mayor by 'The Friends of York Walls' (FYW) who are a voluntary (not for profit) group set up to represent the interests of York's historic defences including St Marys Abbey,The Castle and the Wall.
English Heritage who own and run Cliffords Tower have kindly allowed all the children to look around the Tower free of charge.
