5:26pm 16th October 2009
5 gang members, who're responsible for a string of thefts across the country, have been sentenced at York Crown Court.
Nicknamed the Colmans Mustard Gang they'll serve a total of 16 and a half years behind bars for a string of thefts from stores in Selby, Whitby and Filey.
The group, who're all from Glasgow, also committed offences across England, Scotland and Wales.
It became apparent during the investigation the gang had been arrested on several occasions but had rarely been prosecuted due to the professionalism of their criminal operation.
The men are 52 year old John McNeil, David MacEnhill who's 45, David Proctor who's 44, 52 year old Terence Allison and James McKeown who's 48.
DC Graham said: "I am pleased that justice has once again been served to this prolific gang who targeted legitimate businesses going about their daily work. It sends a clear message that crime will not be tolerated anywhere in North Yorkshire.
"I’d like to thank everyone who has assisted the investigation team, in particular, Asda stores who have suffered greatly over the past ten years at the hands of the gang. They have worked closely with us, supplying evidence and reports enabling us to build up a strong file of evidence against the gang who must now face up their crimes."
