Police are appealing for witnesses after a brick was thrown from a bridge on the A64 at Tadcaster.

The brick hit a passing Leyland HGV on the Northbound carriageway at around 7.10am on Wednesday 11 May 2011.

The windscreen of the lorry was shattered in the incident, however the driver and his passenger escaped unharmed.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or knows who may be responsible.

Sergeant Neil Dunn, of Selby Rural Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

"This was a dangerous incident which could have been much more serious for the driver and his passenger.

"Fortunately, they were uninjured but incidents like this can potentially lead to serious or fatal injuries.

"Whoever is responsible for this mindless act needs to realise what the consequences could have been. If anyone knows who the offender is or witnessed the incident, I would urge them to contact the police or Crimestoppers immediately."

Anyone who has any information that can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact Selby Rural Safer Neighbourhood Team, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110075966. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
