Paedophile appears in Court in Crete

A North Yorkshire paedophile, who avaded police for over two and a half years, is appearing in a court in Crete.

56 year old Stephen John Burnell was detained their last Wednesday after being on the run.

It he does not contest his extradition he'll be bought back to the UK by North Yorkshire Police.

Intapol will tell the force when he can be released and our officers will go to Crete to bring Burrell back.

Burnell had been on the UK's most wanted list since he failed to attend York Crown Court in 2007.

His offences were carried out in North Yorkshire and included the attempted rape and indecent assault of a nine year old girl who he abused over four years.

He was convicted in his absence and given a six year jail term.
