A cyclist has been threatened by a man brandishing a knife in York.
The 20 year old was riding through the underpass in Layerthorpe when a man jumped out of some bushes.
She fought back, kicking the masked attacker and managed to escape; but has been left very shaken.
It happened on the cycle path which runs between James Street and Heworth Green at around 9pm on Tuesday 29th March 2011.
DC Leah Wallhead who is investigating the incident said:
"The victim was physically unharmed by the attack, but was considerably shaken up and upset by her ordeal.
"We would like to appeal to the public to help us find the attacker before he strikes again."
The robber is described as white and having very wide eyes and dark eyebrows. He was aged between16 and 25, around 5ft 6in tall and of skinny build. He was wearing a dark coloured zip-up top with a hood and dark coloured tracksuit bottoms with three white stripes down the side. He wore gloves, had his hood up and wore a scarf over the lower half of his face.
Police are asking for witnesses to the incident or anyone who has any information about the attack to come forward.
DC Wallhead added:
"We want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident. In particular we would like to speak to a man who the victim overtook as she cycled away shortly after the robbery as he was walking in the same direction as her.
"He was wearing a thick, beige and red coat and was carrying a rucksack. If you believe you may be the man, please contact us, as you could have vital information which could help our investigation."
Anyone with any information is urged to contact York CID on 0845 60 60 247, or you can give information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
