A North Yorkshire solicitor, who stole £1.4 million pounds from a Leeds law firm to fund an extravagant lifestyle, has been jailed for seven years.
50 year old Simon Morgan of Main Street, Bilbrough near York was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court today. (Thursday 27th January 2011)
He was found guilty of six counts of theft three weeks ago.
Judge James Goss QC called Morgan's actions "a selfish betrayal of your partners, members of staff, as well as your clients".
It's possible Morgan could be released on licence after three and a half years.
The charges relate to thefts carried out between 2002 and 2004 while Morgan was senior partner at Leeds based firm Milners.
Using company cash, he and his wife Ann indulged in expensive family holidays abroad, flights by private jet and put a deposit on a Lamborghini.
The pair's extravagant lifestyle on stolen funds included a family holiday for five to Antigua in 2003, costing more than £20,000, and a skiing holiday for six in the Alpine resort of Courchevel, including a flight to France by private jet.
Ann Young-Morgan was found unfit to stand trial for psychiatric reasons, but will appear before the judge at an as yet undetermined date.
Detective Sergeant Pete Langham spoke to Minster FM post sentence:
