An attempted murder investigation has been launched in York.

It's after 56 year old Dominic Conlon was attacked in his flat in the Grove area 16 days ago. (The attack happened at around 2.30am Saturday 8th January 2011.)

Officers discovered him in Partington House with severe head injuries.

They've told Minster FM the injuries are consistent with a weapon being used.

Dominic remains in a coma at Leeds General Infirmary.

It's feared he may never recover.

Detectives are now appealing to the public to help them establish exactly what happened to Mr Conlon.

They are also trying to locate a distinctive item of clothing which may be crucial to the case.

Investigations have indicated that someone involved in the incident made off from the flat and discarded a white and green, possibly Adidas, tracksuit top.

Tomorrow Dominic's family will hold a press conference from the hospital, appealing for witnesses to come forward.
