A woman's been attacked by a man in the Haxby Road area.
It happened on Sunday (9th January 2011) near to Clarence Gardens and Rose Street.
The victim flagged down two passing motorists, a man and a woman, who stopped to offer her assistance.
Police are keen to speak to both drivers.
A 38 year old man, who's known to the victim, was arrested yesterday (Wednesday 12th January 2011).
He's been released on bail as enquiries continue.
PC Sharon Cain, of York police, said:
“Fortunately the victim, who knew the man who attacked her, was not injured in the incident. However, she was shaken up and had to ask two people passing in their cars for assistance.
“It is important that the two people who stopped to help the victim come forward and let us know if they have any information that can help us progress the investigation.
“I would also like to hear from anyone else who witnessed the incident to contact the police or Crimestoppers with any information they may have.”
Anyone with any information that could help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact PC Sharon Cain, of York police on 0845 60 60, quoting reference number 12110004270.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
