Traffic officers from Tadcaster are seeking two vital witnesses following a serious road traffic collision near Deighton on the A19.

It occurred at just before midnight on Wednesday 22nd December and involved a 35 year old man, from Selby, who was a pedestrian and a grey Land Rover Discovery on the A19 between York and Escrick at a lay-by just south of the Happy Haddock Fish Shop. At the time of the collision he was walking from York towards Selby, with another man who was not involved in the collision, and the Discovery was travelling towards York.

As a result of the collision the man suffered serious injuries to his head and chest as well broken legs. He was taken to York District Hospital by road ambulance where he remains in a very poorly but stable condition.

Traffic Constable Grant Gibson, of the force’s Roads Policing Group, said:

“There are two people I am urging to come forward. They are the taxi driver who dropped the men off at the lay-by and a woman who was driving south, past the lay-by, at the time of the collision. I urgently need to speak to both of them as they are vital witnesses to the incident.”

Anyone who can help with the enquiry is asked to contact TC Grant Gibson at Tadcaster Police Station on 0845 60 60 24 7 quoting reference number 12100218520.
