A teenage girl's been sexually assaulted in Ripon.

The attack happened between 7.30pm and 8pm on December 5th 2011 when the 16 year old was grabbed from behind by a man.

He pulled her onto a bridle path, at the end of Borrage Green Lane, where he sexually assaulted her.

The suspect is described as white, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, around 6ft tall with chubby build and black hair. He was wearing dark-coloured clothing.

Detective Constable Kirsten Aldridge, of Ripon CID, said:

"I would like to reassure the residents of Ripon that this is an isolated incident and we are conducting extensive investigations to ensure this man is caught as soon as possible.

"I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or recognises the man from the description to come forward.

"I would also urge anyone who has been approached in similar circumstances to contact the police or Crimestoppers as they may have vital information that can help us."

DC Aldridge is also urging people to take care when going out at night.

"I would recommend that members of the public are vigilant and follow basic safety precautions. Try and avoid walking alone at night, but if you do have to go out ensure that you notify a friend or relative and advise them of the route you are taking."

Anyone who has any information that could help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact DC Kirsten Aldridge, of Ripon CID, on 0845 60 60 24 7.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
