The Lord Mayor of York is sending festive greetings to local troops serving in Afghanistan with a giant Christmas card – and is asking residents to get involved.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Sue Galloway, is inviting local people to write a message to the servicemen and women of the York based 2 Signal Regiment, who are currently serving in Operation Herrick in Afghanistan.

The card will be available at the Mansion House on Wednesday 17 November from 11am until 2pm and on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 November at the Guildhall Reception from 9am until 5pm each day.

The first people to sign the card will be Mr and Mrs Patrick from Acomb, whose son is currently serving with 3 Para Regiment, and the Lord Mayor of York.
