Sex attack in York

Police in York are investigating a report of serious sexual assault on an 18 year old woman.
The incident occurred in the Coney Street area of the city centre at some time between 2am and 4.20am today (Wednesday 10th November 2010).
Officers are appealing for witnesses and seeking information to help identify a man.
He is described as white, between 5ft 8in and 6ft tall, with a skinny build and short dark hair. He was wearing a t-shirt and jeans.
Detective Inspector Steve Smith, of York CID, said:
"The investigation is still in its early stages but it is crucial that we locate and speak to this man to assist our enquiries.
“If anyone can help identify him then please contact the police or Crimestoppers as a matter of urgency.”
DI Smith would also like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or recalls seeing anything suspicious in the Coney Street area between 2am and 4.20am.
“The victim has been left very shocked and upset by the ordeal and she is receiving support from specially trained officers. Her care is of paramount importance in this investigation.”
Police enquiries are ongoing in the Coney Street area to recover evidence that will assist in identifying the man, and to develop the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
