Gang attack on 12 year old boy in York

4:47pm 28th October 2010

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the robbery of a 12 year old boy in York.

The incident took place at 2.10pm on Wednesday 27th October on Gale Lane as the boy was riding his scooter close to the One Stop Shop.

The victim was approached by a group of three boys and a girl, aged around 12 to 13 years old, who knocked him from the scooter and pushed him down an alleyway to the side of the shop.

They then demanded that the victim hand over cigarettes. When the boy proved that he did not have any by turning out his pockets, the group stole his money.

Following the robbery the group of youngsters headed towards the Chesney Fields area on foot and pedal cycle.

The only description of the suspects is that they are white, aged around 12 to 13 years.  The boys were all wearing dark coloured tops and the girl had a pink top.

PC Andy Herrington, of York's Response and Reassurance Team, said:

"This was a nasty robbery which has naturally left the young lad very upset.

"I urge anyone who witnessed the incident or knows the youths involved to contact the police immediately."

Anyone who witnessed the robbery or has any information that can help the investigation is asked to contact PC Andy Herrington on 0845 60 60 24 7 quoting reference number 12100185317.
