Yorkshire MEP unsure over new plans to combat binge drinking

Yorkshire MEP unsure over new plans to combat binge drinking

8:46am 20th August 2010

The latest idea to combat Britain's binge-drinking culture is being discussed in the EU.

Officials are considering introducing a levy stating how many units of alcohol we can have in a pub.

So for example, if you've had four pints and try to buy a fifth - a landlord could say "sorry mate you've had the recommended limit, I can't serve you."

But Godfrey Bloom who's a Yorkshire MEP says if a cap is imposed on revellers it'll infridge our civil liberties.
