(Updated 10:13am 11th August 2010)

The number of unemployed youngsters in North Yorkshire jumped by 50% last year.

That's according to the latest figures from the TUC Union.

There's currently over 600 18 to 24 year olds in our region who've been out of work for more than 6 months. The total across the Yorkshire and Humber is now well over 11,000.

Meanwhile nationally the number of people out of work is expected to have fallen, when official figures are released later.

Experts are predicting the jobless total has dropped by 65,000 in the three months to June, to 2.45 million.
