Two cannabis farms found near Selby
3:25pm 9th August 2010
Two people have been arrested after a raid on a cannabis farm in Beal near Selby.
Officers say they uncovered a significant cannabis growing operation on Sunday, with up to 260 plants found.
Their investigation also lead them to a second cannabis farm, of a similar size, located in a nearby building.
Two men, aged 30 and 67, have been arrested and remain in police custody for questioning.
Inspector Richard Abbott, of the Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:
"It is very satisfying that another significant cannabis farm has been put out of business as a result of decisive police action.
"The search warrant was executed following a build up of intelligence over a period of time and it went according to plan.
"It also proves once again that North Yorkshire Police will use every power available to disrupt this type of organised criminal activity, which has such a detrimental impact on the wider society.
"The criminal gangs who pull the strings behind such cannabis farms can be assured that we will catch up with them sooner or later. There will be no let up in our determination to reduce and detect crime."
Anyone with information about this or other suspected cannabis farms in the Selby area is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 0845 60 60 24 7. Information can also be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
