Pensioner attacked in York

Pensioner attacked in York

4:40pm 19th July 2010

An attack on an elderly pensioner in York has prompted the police to release CCTV footage of a suspect they're tracing.

Last Thursday night, a 71 year old local woman was walking along a footpath behind St Peter's School when she was approached by a man on a bike who pushed her over and stole her handbag.

The victim sustained a fractured arm and was very frightened.

Detective Constable Mo Mohammed, of York CID, said:

“This was obviously a very frightening ordeal for the victim and we are hoping that the CCTV footage will jog someone’s memory.

“If you recognise the man on the bike or were in the area at the time of the incident and saw anyone acting suspiciously, please contact the police or Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is urged to contact DC Mo Mohammed, of York CID, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12100118258.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The CCTV footage can be downloaded from the North Yorkshire Police website http://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/media/avi/b/k/VTS_01_1.avi
