(Updated 5:18pm 13th July 2010)

Police investigating a robbery in York have released CCTV images of a suspect they are seeking.

Last thursday afternoon (July 8th 2010) a woman entered BNT stores on Nunthorpe Road and sneaked behind the counter.

When she was challenged she threatened a member of staff before making off empty handed.

The woman officers would like to trace is described as white, aged between 18 and 23-years-old, around 5ft 3in tall with a thin build.

She has straight blond hair tied back in a ponytail and a thin face with a pale complexion. She was wearing a dark-coloured jacket and trousers with a grey baseball cap.

Detective Constable Tania Gillman, of York CID, said:

"This was obviously a disturbing incident for the member of staff involved. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and the offender left empty handed. If anyone recognises the offender in the images, or noticed any suspicious behaviour in the area at the time, please get in touch with the police or Crimestoppers. We have also reviewed CCTV footage in the area and believe that a number of witnesses may have seen the offender leaving the shop. I would urge those people to come forward if they have any information that could help progress the investigation."

Anyone with any information that could help the enquiry is urged to contact DC Tania Gillman, of York CID, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12100113332.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
