Cuts affect projects in York

We'll find out later if the new train station in Haxby is gonna have the breaks put on it.
Its another project facing the axe following Government cuts. The City of York Council will be asked to suspend the work until the funding situation becomes clearer.
Providing a station at Haxby has been one of the council's ambitions for many years and is included in the current Local Transport Plan. The station would be located on the TransPennine network with trains running to Scarborough, York, Leeds and Manchester and would serve a local population of approximately 22,000.
Its a huge set back as it had been hoped it would help reduce congestion on the ring-road.
But as the authority tries to balance the book regarding transportation, it's facing financial pressures elsewhere.
The Univeristy of York is asking for a 3 million pound capital grant to be approved today, so work can progress on a building a competition standard swimming pool.
