Man air lifted to hospital on A64

A man remains in a serious condition this morning after a serious accident on the A64 on Tuesday 29th June.
Officers were alerted to the incident which occurred at around 5.40pm on the westbound carriageway of the A64, around half a mile prior to Headley Bar. A silver Ford Ka left the road and collided with a tree approximately 20 to 30 metres from the carriageway.
The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old from York was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where he remains in a stable condition. A passenger in the car was also taken to Leeds General Infirmary suffering from minor injuries and was released later that evening.
Both sides of the carriageway were closed at around 6.15pm to allow the air ambulance to land. The eastbound carriageway and lane two of the westbound carriageway were reopened at 6.45pm.
