Some of our soldiers will be greeting a Royal visitor later.
Th Duke of York is presenting four sets of new colours to The Yorkshire Regiment. It will bring together three regular battalions and one territorial battalion for the first time since they were formed in 2006.
Traditionally troops have rallied to the Colours on the battlefield where in the confusion and the mayhem they have provided the visible point for soldiers to pinpoint their Battalion or Regiment.
Nowadays, having held this role over the centuries and been present on military operations through the ages, the Colours are highly prized for their history and they symbolise the spirit, courage and dedication of the Regiment – all on an ornate and beautifully needleworked flag.
This unique Colours Presentation brings together the three regular Battalions and one Territorial Battalion for the first time since they were formed on 6 June 2006.
On Saturday 19 June the new Colours will be proudly marched through the city of York to York Minster where there will be a special service of blessing.
The parade of more than 1,000 soldiers will be the largest that the City has seen since the 2nd World War.
