8:28am 17th June 2010

Detectives are asking for the public's help following the discovery of a woman's body in a burnt out car near Oswaldkirk, York on Wednesday 16 June 2010.

The gold Renault Megane convertible, with its roof up at the time of the fire, was spotted in a layby, where it appeared to have been burning for some time, at approximately 4.15am on the B1363 one mile outside Oswaldkirk towards Easingwold.

The Fire and Rescue Service reported the discovery of the body following the fire being extinguished.

The body is believed to be that of the 45-year-old woman owner of the car, who is from the Humberside area. She is described as being white, 5ft 3in tall, with a very slim build and mid length blond hair. When she was last seen she was wearing a black top, black tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Anyone who saw a woman matching the description, the gold coloured Renault Megane convertible between 2pm on Tuesday 15 June and 4am Wednesday 16 June 2010 or has any information that can help the investigation into her death, is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Adam Normanton, of Scarborough CID, on 0845 6060247.
