Crackdown on criminals living off the proceeds of their crimes is being launched. North Yorkshire Police are asking quite simply -'why should they?'

They want you to report anything suspicious to them. Assistant Cheif Constable Tim Madgwick told Minster fm theres no escape for criminals. The police have powers under the POCA to seize criminals assets if they believe they have been obtained through criminal means.

Community groups and projects will also benefit from the proceeds as a £24,000 share of criminals' cash is being made available to local communities. A bidding process will be put in place and all bids will be considered by an independent  panel.
