Fire at hotel in Harrogate

Fire at hotel in Harrogate

8:26am 5th May 2010

There has been a big blaze at the Majestic Hotel, Ripon Rd, Coppice  Harrogate.

Firefighters were called around 5 this morning. 12 appliances are now on scene from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) and West Yorkshire also, with 2 special aerial appliances and a number of supporting officers and equipment.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue believe the fire to involve top floor bed rooms and the roof area with fire and smoke emitting and members of the public making over 13 repeated calls to the fire service. The hotel was evacuated and we currently have no reports of injuries and fire fighters are still working hard to bring the fire under control and limit damage where possible.

It is still too early to comment on a cause for the fire but an investigation will commence as soon as practicably possible.
