Archbishop of York backs Community Stadium
5:59am 30th April 2010
The Archbishop of York last night threw his weight behind plans for a Community Stadium in the City.
York City played Luton Town in the first leg of their Blue Square Premier play-offs last night. The minstermen won that match 1-0. They'll now face Luton again on Monday.
However the club were asking fans to sign a petition in support of a community stadium for the City of York. Plan is to present it to the City of York Council in July.
At half time Dr John Sentamu came onto the pitch to sign the petition himself and give the Community Stadium his backing.
York City say they need your help to make sure sport in this city has a future. The statement on the petition reads:
“We the undersigned believe that York needs a community stadium to help ensure that its sports clubs survive and prosper, and to be an amenity and focus of civic pride for the whole community. We call upon the City of York Council to do everything in its power to ensure that such a stadium is provided by 2015.”
The club have set up an independent website at www.astadiumforyork.com and you are encouraged to join the Facebook Group - please invite as many friends as possible to do the same.
