Searches continue as the police step up thier murder enquiry in Scarborough.
Alan Atkin was found dead in his flat on Swan Hill Road on Wednesday Afternoon by two female friends.
Mr Atkin had suffered severe injuries to his face, head and body. A post mortem revealed the cause of death was from the head injuries.
Extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing. They will continue throughout the weekend and into next week.
Officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries and a police search team are scouring the nearby area for clues. The investigation is also being supported by Crime Scene Investigators and forensic experts.
Detective Chief Inspector Alan Carey, the senior investigating officer in the murder inquiry, said: “Alan Atkin was a fairly well-known figure in Scarborough who regularly socialised in the town. "
DCI Carey believes that Mr Atkin’s circle of friends could play a crucial role in helping to identify a suspect.
He said: “There was no sign of forced entry into the flat which suggests that Mr Atkin possibly knew the person who carried out the assault.
“I am therefore appealing to anyone who was a friend or acquaintance of Mr Atkin to come forward to the police as a matter of urgency. I can assure people that they can talk in confidence if that is what they wish."
