North Yorkshire County Council on trial

5:40am 14th April 2010
(Updated 1:43pm 16th April 2010)

North Yorkshire County Council on trial at Leeds Crown Court after a teenager was killed on a school caving trip.

14 year old, Joe Lister, drowned back in November 2005.

Today the County Council will deny charges of failing to ensure Joe's safety and that of the teaching staff at Tadcaster Grammar.

Joe drowned in rising waters in Manchester Hole in Upper Nidderdale.

It was tragedy that shook the local area - and took from us a rising and talented sporting star.

At a recent inquest into Joe's death, weather conditions and water blowing in from a nearby reservoir were blamed.

The Health and Safety Executive is bringing today's prosecution against North Yorkshire County Council.
